From January 29 to March 28, 2025, Galerie 208, installed in the green setting of the Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech, exhibits the work of the artist Mahi Binebine as part of his exhibition “Silent Elevations”, an introspective journey through a unique selection of sculptures and paintings, combining roughness of materials and poetry of gesture

The exhibition “Silent Elevations” reveals for the first in Morocco once a large part of the monumental sculptures of Mahi Binebine. The scenography designed to dialogue with the surrounding nature, also includes a unique fresco composed of 34 works made in tar on tissue paper. Among the works presented, a series recently included in the collections of the Pérez Museum Miami (PAMM) occupies a central place.

Born in Marrakech in 1959, Mahi Binebine is an emblematic figure of contemporary Moroccan art. Painter, sculptor and novelist, he anchors his work in the paradoxes of the human condition. In this new exhibition, he continues his exploration of universal questions: memory and forgetting, rootedness and transcendence, shadow and light.

For art lovers, February 1, 2025 is a date not to be missed: Mahi Binebine will be present to interact with the public during two exclusive sessions. On this occasion, numbered and signed lithographs will be offered exclusively in an intimate setting limited to 60 people. An opportunity to leave with a fragment of the artist’s universe.

In this sense, the director of gallery 208, Patricia Chicheportiche, explains that“offering the opportunity to introduce the Moroccan and international public to exceptional works, in a place where nationalities meet, is an approach that is close to our hearts.”

Alongside the exhibition, Galerie 208 is participating in the contemporary African art fair 1-54 and at the Marrakech African Book Festival, two major events where the artist, also co-founder of the literary festival East in the spotlight.
