In a sincere and emotional video message, Yannick Bestaven, winner of the 2020 Vendée Globe, personally congratulated Charlie Dalin, crowned champion of the 2024 edition.
Despite his forced retirement, Bestaven did not fail to highlight Dalin’s great performance.
“This Vendée Globe was for you. I don’t know if you remember, four years ago, when I took the trophy in my hands, I told you, ‘In four years, it will be for you.’ also said Yannick Bestaven,“JI am very very happy. It’s really deserved. Welcome to the exclusive club of Vendée Globe winners.
It is very very deserved. You had a fantastic race.

“You dared to take risks when the Indian girl entered. We looked for the big depression where we didn’t go. And then afterwards, you and Sébastien knew how to gas, said the skipper again, Yoann had a great race coming back with the strength of the wrist behind. But you knew how to keep your lead.”
An impeccable road, a perfectly ready boat, super speeds. So this Vendée Globe was for you.

On December 30, 2024, while in 11th place, Yannick Bestaven had to withdraw due to serious technical damage.
Helm problems, damaged hull, damaged starboard foil, damaged sails: the obstacles piled up, forcing him to make a stopover in Ushuaïa to repair his boat.
Six days later, the 52-year-old skipper returned to sea, but out of competition. He did it with a specific objective: to complete his solo journey and bring his sailboat Maître Coq back to Les Sables-d’Olonne.
“It was my last solo race, so being able to bring Maître CoQ V back to Les Sables solo would allow me to finish on a fun note,” he confided with emotion.
