While season 2 of Squid Game is all the rage on Netflix, a big difference with season 1 shocked us, generating some misunderstandings…

The second season of Squid Game Although it was released on December 26, the South Korean series no longer lets go of first place in the Netflix top, even breaking dizzying records and leaving no chance for Harlan Coben’s new series, I miss youyet highly anticipated. But if this unchallenged reign confirms the phenomenon already sparked in season 1, some intrigues of this season 2 have left fans perplexed. If the spectators did not really like the end of the season and they still cannot digest this death of a character who has become popular, this is yet another fact which surprised us while watching…

Squid Game season 2: did this difference with season 1 shock you too?

After two episodes where Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) tries to unite troops around his plan for revenge against the masters of the game, he is finally reintroduced into the game as player 456 and must start participating again from episode 3. The opportunity for the public to meet the new players who will also punctuate Gi-hun’s season. And this is where something shocked us: how come so many participants who know each other end up in the game together? In season 1, only two people recognized each other from the outside and the others were all strangers, which went a long way to proving how many people were poor and desperate to the point of participating. But in season 2, it seems like everyone knows each other! Gi-hun finds his friend Jung-bae, player 007 finds his mother, player 333 finds himself with his pregnant ex-girlfriend, while Thanos and his junkie sidekick also recognize player 333! Furthermore, No-eul, the North Korean soldier who signed up to become a Red Guard, recognizes the father of the sick little girl among the players. An accumulation of coincidences which becomes a real inconsistency with season 1, going from one extreme to the other.

Squid Game season 2: and what is this Marine story?

It is therefore difficult to go from everything to everything. The fact that the players did not know each other in season 1 made it possible to raise the dramatic stakes, to determine the meaning of each person’s sacrifice outside of their affinities or animosities from the outside world. Another element which becomes very recurring in season 2 and which was not at all in season 1 is the excessive presence of soldiers. Jung-bae quickly announces that he is a former Marine when he crosses paths with young Dae-ho, who also shows him his Marine tattoo. And when the cross and circle teams form, and the tension rises, Dae-ho challenges the opposing team. And several of them also claim to be former Marines! Add to that the fact that Hyun-ju admits to having been in the army and being kicked out because of her gender transition, and it seems that the entire assembly is from the military ranks. A storyline curiosity which perhaps suggests a running out of inventiveness…
