Eight months after renewal of Shoguncreators Rachel Kondō and Justin Marks have finally given news of the long-awaited season 2 of the series available on Disney+.
Shogun is among the series that marked the year 2024. Released last February on Disney+the historical drama quickly established itself as the new global phenomenon. Based on the bestseller by James Clavell, the epic generated 9 million views in just six days on the Hulu and Disney+ platforms. While a sequence of Shogun was not on the agenda, its immense success pushed the American channel FX to renew it for a season 2, the writing of which is about to end.

During the Golden Globes evening which took place on Sunday January 5 in Los Angeles, the creators and executive producers, Rachel Kondō and Justin Marks, gave news of season 2 of Shogun. The scriptwriter couple assured that they are actively working on the next chapter of the historical drama. “It’s still going on. We haven’t given up. I don’t really know what to say…”declared the showrunner, while her husband added: “We’re about six weeks away from finishing writing.” If the writing of season 2 of Shogun is approaching its end, no filming date has yet been communicated by the FX channel. While waiting for its broadcast, the creators had given some details on what awaits us in the sequel. “It’s real chaos. But creative chaos, where we throw everything we have against the wall and see what sticks best. It’s been exciting and also nerve-wracking, because obviously it’s territory unexplored: we have no map to guide us, we only have a story”they said at an Emmy FYC event.
Shogun : the 2024 event series crushed the competition at the 2025 Golden Globes
More than three months after making Emmy Awards history by winning eighteen awards in one evening, the team of Shogun triumphed again. The historic series is among the big winners of the 82nd Golden Globes ceremony, broadcast on the American channel CBS. Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor in a Drama Series, while his co-star Anna Sawai won Best Actress. Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano won the Best Supporting Actor trophy. Shogun also established itself by winning the award for Best Drama Series, succeeding Succession.
