Jean-Marie Le Pen died at the age of 96, his family announced to AFP this Tuesday, January 7, 2025. If the founder of the National Front sparked a number of controversies as a politician, he , undoubtedly, marked the history of the Fifth Republic. But his career, which took him to the second round of the presidential election in 2002, he did not go through it alone. His private life and his political rise were marked by the presence at his side of numerous women. Who were the women who mattered in his life?
The woman who marked the life, intimate or political, of the former leader of the far-right, is obviously Marine Le Penhis daughter. Since her adolescence, the current president of the National Rally has often accompanied her father in his political campaigns, before becoming, in the 1990s, one of the FN’s hopes, and one of its closest collaborators. On May 5, 2002, while her father reached the second round of the presidential election for the first time, she took her first very notable steps on television to defend the patriarch’s candidacy. Her rise is such that in 2011, she will succeed her father as president of the FN. But in 2015, relations worsened between the former leader and his daughter : while Jean-Marie Le Pen makes new polemical comments on the Second World War, Marine Le Pen dissociates herself from him and ends up obtaining his exclusion from the party he founded. Father and daughter had since patched things up and Jean-Marie Le Pen supported his candidacy in 2022.

But if Marine Le Pen is the Le Pen daughter who has had the most important political career, his two other daughters also tried to follow in their father’s footsteps. Marie-Caroline, the eldest of the siblings, also campaigned for the FN alongside her father before suddenly breaking up with him too. : during the party split in 1998, she chose to follow Bruno Mégret, against the advice of Jean-Marie Le Pen, marking a political and family break with the latter. Yann Le Pen, the third daughter of the Le Pen clan, also actively worked for her father behind the scenes of the party. She is also the mother of Marion Maréchal, the granddaughter of the founder of the FN : if the former political leader was very close to her, he also showed some disagreements with her, notably when she chose to support Eric Zemmour or when she deleted the name Le Pen from her surname. “Marion was born Le Pen, had confided Jean-Marie Le Pen in the Jordan Deluxe show in 2022. She removed [mon nom] without asking me. Marion, like the other Le Pen girls, has character.”
Among the women who shared his life, there is Pierrette, the mother of Marie-Caroline, Yann and Marine. The couple separated violently in the 1980s. After leaving the family home, Jean-Marie Le Pen declared to Playboy : “If she needs money, all she has to do is clean!” Pierrette Le Pen then accepted a proposal from the charming magazine by posing undressed in a maid’s outfit in an article entitled “Madame Le Pen naked does the housework”. A publication which had led to his exclusion from the clan.
In 1991, Jean-Marie Le Pen married the other woman in his life: Jany. This woman born to a Greek father and a Franco-Dutch mother will accompany the ex-leader in the shadows until the end of his life.
Finally, we cannot talk about the women who mattered in the life of Jean-Marie Le Pen without talking about… Brigitte Bardot. The French cinema icon and animal rights activist shared a very special relationship with the former leader of the far-right. In 2022, in a documentary broadcast on BFM TV, Marine Le Pen explained the link that united the star and the politician, reports Télé Loisirs. “Paris was small at the time, testified the president of the RN. My father knew Alain Delon, for example, and he had the opportunity to meet Brigitte Bardot. As I recall, they went to a hospital together to visit wounded soldiers.” The relationship between Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Marie Le Pen would have strengthened and they would have become very close amicably, during the marriage of the star with Bernard Dormal, a friend and advisor of the founder of the FN.
