Showtime continues to ride on its very popular series Dexter. After a return in 2021, the channel and Paramount have put a prequel series on track entitled Dexter : Original Sin and a season 2 for New Blood and now, it's confirmed, a new spin-off will see the light of day.
The Dexter franchise continues to grow
Fans of Dexter have reason to be satisfied. After playing the character of Dexter Morgan, the most famous serial killer on TV, Michael C. Hall returns in 2021 for a sequel titled Dexter : New Blood. Since December 13, the public can discover Dexter's youth in the prequel series Dexter : Original Sin. The show takes place in 1991 and explores the early years of the character played by Patrick Gibson. To reunite with the original actor, there's a good chance fans will be able to see him make appearances In Dexter : Ressurectionseason 2 of New Blood.
And since that wasn't enough, Showtime and Paramount+ have just confirmed that a new spin-off of Dexter was going to see the light of day. This project has been the subject of rumors for several years and it is now official: A Trinity Killer prequel series is in development.
A spin-off about a monstrous character loved by Dexter fans
The site Deadline revealed this Tuesday, December 24 that Clyde Philips and Scott Reynolds, two showrunners who worked on the parent series, were responsible for writing the script for this spin-off during the filming ofOriginal Sin. Titled Trinity Killerthe series will follow this character who appeared in season 4 of Dexter and who murders Rita, the hero's wife. This killer follows a cycle of 3 murders which he carries out a few days apart: death by bleeding in a bathtub, a fake suicide and a slaughter to death with a hammer. But Dexter discovers that the one called Arthur Mitchell also buries a young boy alive in a concrete pour. It was after suffering childhood trauma that Arthur became a serial killer. It must be said that he saw his sister die of a hemorrhage when she opened her femoral artery when she was waxing, his mother committed suicide by jumping off a roof and his father was massacred by a thug leaving a bar.
There is material to tell the story of young Arthur Mitchell for better understand his journey and explain how he became this monster. Moreover, when reading the script, original actor John Lithgow was won over and will return to reprise his role. Note that Trinity Killer is on standby to concentrate on Ressurection which will be filmed in January for broadcast scheduled for June 2025.
