The show saw several artists get close to their idols. For example, Davina Michelle sang 'together' with Adele and Danny Vera's tribute to Elvis Presley ended in a virtual duet with The King. The performances contained numerous surprises and were interspersed with short interviews, against the backdrop of a mash-up of no fewer than eighty pop classics.
“The dream has become reality. When I presented my first and relatively modest mash-up ten years ago at the opening of the Top 2000, I hoped that it would one day develop into something big,” says Bart Arens. “It became a beautiful journey, where we continued to grow every year to the next step. Fireworks, projections and light effects, a gospel choir, with an orchestra on the roof of Beeld & Geluid, in the middle of a pond and last year I played with four top Dutch drummers in a hangar in front of an immense video wall. And now for the first time with an audience, for an hour, in the Haarlem City Theater: for me this tenth edition is the absolute highlight.”
After the Opening Show Top 2000 (AVROTROS), which can still be seen on NPO Start, Desiree van der Heiden played the song 2000: I Sat By The Ocean by Queens Of Stone Age. The number one is traditionally heard on New Year's Eve, just before New Year's Eve.
