A man and a womana legendary French film shot in Deauville, is so anchored in local culture that a place was named after its director, Claude Lelouch, in 1999.

This place has existed for 25 years now without its planks having yet been changed. This is why within the renovation plan for the Promenade des Planches put in place by the seafront service, it is the turn of this square and its neighbor Place XY to get a makeover.

Deauville know-how

These are 1,690 boards in azobe and 11,830 nails which will be changed between mid-November and the end of March, the period when the work should be completed.

Five municipal agents are involved in this project, including David Flament, head of waterfront technical services who supervises everything. THE 380 m² of Place Claude Lelouch and 80 m² of Place XY are renovated by the force of the arms of agents, armed with nails and hammers. A project that will last all winter.

Removing the old boards also allows you to bring the electrical network hidden beneath them up to date.

Classified as a historic monument, the Promenade des Planches must be restored according to the same uses as when it was created.

Françoise Hom, deputy mayor, talks about this know-how: “This walk has resisted bad weather for 100 years, all thanks to the know-how of our agents, cultivated through the strength of their arms and the transfer of knowledge between generations. . This is also what makes this walk unique. »

Eight million € for the Pompeian Baths

This renovation is also part of the desire for a renovation project for the Pompeian baths, which is expected to see the light of day in the years to come. On this subject, the City has provided in its budget for 2025: “A first tranche of payment credits for studies, project management and works in the amount of 1.932 million euros for the renovation of these Pompeian baths on a project total estimated to date at 8 million euros with forecast self-financing from the City reduced to date to 1.8 million taking into account forecast financing from Europe (ERDF funds planned at 60 %) of the Region and the State” announced Mayor Philippe Augier during the budgetary orientation debate.

Unique boards

Supported by 171 joists and 560 stakes to hold them firmly on the sand, the new boards are destined to remain in place for another 25 years. The Norman climate requires a precise choice of boards to support the weight of these years, that of exotic wood much more resistant than oak wood. The sawmills supplying the wood are FCS (Forest Support Council) certified, a label indicating the responsible and sustainable management of the world's forests, a very important criterion for the mayor of Deauville.
