The new Prime Minister, François Bayrou, went to the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 17, for the first time since his appointment, to respond to deputies. The latter did not hesitate to criticize him for his trip to Pau.
The exercise was tough. François Bayrou went to the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 17 to respond to the deputies. He thus returned to the hemicycle for the first time in 12 years. The Prime Minister also explained his presidency of the Municipal Council of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Monday December 16, while Mayotte is facing an unprecedented tragedy.
“Your place was not in Pau. The urgency was not around the accumulation of mandates“, reproached him the president of the PS group, Boris Vallaud. A reproach also supported by Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group in the Assembly.
To defend himself, the new Prime Minister recalled having participated in the crisis meeting on Mayotte. “I simply participated by video… Pau is also France”he said. The President of the National Assembly herself seemed only half convinced. As for the deputies from his camp, the MoDem, they appeared disoriented.
