The Durrells family arrives on Arte from this Thursday, June 27. The channel will broadcast the entire series The Durrells: An English Family in Corfu. These are fairly familiar faces to viewers who play the main characters. The mother, Louisa, is played by Keeley Hawes, already seen on Netflix. Josh O’Connor, who was seen in The Crownis Larry Durrell, one of four children. Daisy Waterstone (Margot Durrell), Callum Woodhouse (Leslie Durrell) and Milo Parker (Gerald Durrell) are the last members of this atypical sibling group whose story is adapted from Gerald Durrell’s autobiographical novels.

The Durrells : a series inspired by the true story of the family

The series is inspired by the famous Corfu Trilogy written by the youngest of the family and which traces the journey of the latter. It is in India that the four children are born, fruits of the love between Louisa and her husband Lawrence. Unfortunately, the father of the family died in 1928, leaving his wife alone at the head of his tribe. Without means or reasons to stay in India, the family moved to Bournemouth, England in 1932. Louisa realized that her family was not happy and decided to settle in Greece, in Corfu with her four children. in 1935. But this is not easy, the children have quite different personalities. Larry, the eldest, wants to become a writer and wants independence. Leslie, the second, only has guns on his mind. Margo, the only girl in the family, is not very smart and sometimes comes across as an idiot. For his part, the youngest, Gerald, is passionate about animals and prefers to spend his time with them rather than with humans. A family whose integration in Greece is complicated and who will experience many adventures over the days.

The Durrells : a series in four seasons

In the first episodes broadcast on Arte, viewers will meet the family and discover the character of each member. If the adventure begins as soon as they arrive in Corfu, the Durrells still have many surprises in store. It must be said that the series is made up of four seasons that retrace the journey of the tribe, always adapting Gerald’s fascinating novels. In addition to its broadcast on television, the series is available on the streaming platform Arte.tv until September 30, 2024.
