The search is activated in order to find the five people reported missing aboard an OceanGate submarine. diverted a ship equipped with an underwater robot to participate in the search.

As time is running out, the search for the Titan submarine, which carries five people on board, intensifies. The French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea (Ifremer) diverted its ship called Atalante. The latter is equipped with an underwater robot for great depths, named Victor 6000.

A robot to rescue

The ship was on a mission just 48 hours away from the Titanic wreckage area. Its Victor 6000 autonomous robot is capable of descending to a depth of 6,000 meters, beyond the 3,800 of the wreck.

The management of the French Oceanographic Fleet “immediately asked the Captain of the Atalante to divert the ship to go to the area concerned, which it should reach this Wednesday, June 21 around 8 p.m. (local time) and join the search forces coordinated by the US Coast Guard” indicates Ifremer in a press release.

“All the members of Ifremer and Genavir are doing everything possible, in compliance with maritime law, to help find the submarine and its occupants as soon as possible.

Operators should dive the robot to assist the crew of the submarine in distress. The Titan submarine with a 96-hour autonomy, had begun a descent towards the remains of the Titanic, is actively sought.

Ifremer indicates in its press release “All the members of Ifremer and Genavir are doing everything possible, in compliance with maritime law, to help find the submarine and its occupants as soon as possible”.
