Heavy rain and strong winds disrupted rail and road traffic on Sunday morning in the regions affected by storm Herminia and floods led the city of Rennes to evacuate several streets.
The departments of Finistère, Côtes-d’Armor, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées and Rhône have been placed on orange wind alert for eight hours. Morbihan will be at the same level of vigilance for rain-flooding from 6 p.m. until at least 11 p.m. Calvados, Ille-et-Vilaine and Mayenne have been affected by flooding since Saturday. Orne was added to the list on Sunday morning.
Several train cancellations in Normandy
In Rennes, the rising waters of the Ille canal led the town hall to issue an evacuation order on Saturday evening for four streets located near the Ille river.
The Herminia depression also led to several train cancellations in Normandy, where gusts of up to 110 km/h are expected, SNCF announced. Traffic, particularly between Paris and Cherbourg and between Caen and Rennes, should be disrupted on Sunday and Monday, the railway company warned. Winds of up to 150 km/h on the ridges are also expected during the day in the Basque Country.
