Boca Juniors are set to kick off their campaign in the Apertura de la Liga Profesional tournament by taking on Argentinos Juniors at La Bombonera, with the aim of securing their first victory in this newly started domestic competition.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Alberto José Armando Stadium, commonly known as La Bombonera, at 7:00 p.m. The match will be refereed by Hernán Mastrángelo, with José Carreras in charge of VAR duties. Fans will be able to follow the action live on TNT Sports.

The “Azul y Oro” enter this duel after a resounding 5-0 victory against Argentino de Monte Maíz in the first round of the Copa Argentina 2025, propelling them to the next phase where they will face either All Boys or Atlético Tucumán.

Under the leadership of coach Fernando Gago, Boca will look to showcase the individual talents of their squad, which includes outstanding players like Ander Herrera of Spain, Chilean Carlos Palacios and Rodrigo Battaglia, who recently joined the club in originating from Brazilian football.

Additionally, the coach will welcome the return of Edinson Cavani, Marcos Rojo and Cristian Lema, who have recovered from their injuries and will be fit for Boca’s national league opener.

After a successful pre-season, marked by an easy victory against Juventude of Brazil and the big victory against Argentino de Monte Maíz, Gago aims to implement his style of play effectively. He is expected to retain the majority of the starting team to make a strong impression in this national tournament, where Boca is considered one of the favorites.

Regarding the composition of the team, Boca should include Leandro Brey in goal, awaiting confirmation on the condition of Agustín Marchesín. The defense will see the return of Cristian Lema and Marcos Rojo, who missed the last match in Santa Fe for precautionary reasons. Luis Advíncula and Marcelo Saracchi will continue as the starting full-backs.

On the other side, Argentinos Juniors are yet to participate in the Copa Argentina but will hope to gain momentum from their recent friendly victory against Juventud de Las Piedras of Uruguay, where they won 3-1.
