The child, whose death still remains unexplained a year and a half after his tragic disappearance, will be buried on February 8 in La Bouilladisse, where his parents are from.
A perpetual concession had been awarded to him. Little Émile Soleil will ultimately not be buried in the Haut-Vernet cemetery (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), but in La Bouilladisse, where his parents came from, we learned Le Figaro Thursday afternoon with the mayor of Vernet, François Balique. “They wrote to me this morning to let me know.”indicates the councilor, without going into details.
“The press certainly made them change their minds. They want to avoid controversy”explains a local source. The latter evokes in this sense the recent request of Marie and Colomban Soleil for a family vault in Haut-Vernet to be buried alongside their son. If the law stipulates that a person who dies in a municipality can automatically benefit from a burial there, whatever their town of origin, this does not automatically include the relatives of the deceased, not even their parents.
A mass open to the public
The request, which had therefore to date been neither accepted nor rejected, was to be submitted for deliberation at a municipal council on Saturday. “I understand that they want a vault to be near Émile, but there are legal conditions to be met. What’s more, we have a lot of requests to process in this area. All citizens are equal before the law, we will not violate it. François Balique recalled in our columns on Wednesday.
-The funeral of the young boy, who disappeared at the age of two and a half on July 8, 2023 and whose remains were found on March 30, 2024 by a hiker, will be held in two stages on February 8. A mass will first take place at 10 a.m. in the Sainte Marie-Madeleine basilica in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. It will be open from 9:30 a.m. to the public and registers of condolences will be made available. As for the burial, it will take place later in the day, in the strictest family privacy.
