After the good performance against AS Monaco, Jean-Louis Gasset could well be tempted to repeat his “daring” 3-5-2 this Sunday against Toulouse. This system, which allowed MHSC to compete with one of the best attacks in Ligue 1, seems to have borne fruit despite a complicated first half. Indeed, without an imperial Benjamin Lecomte and clumsy adversaries, mass could have been said very quickly. In the second half, the Pailladins showed a more conquering face, proof of an impeccable collective state of mind.
With an almost unchanged group, the Montpellier coach should be able to rely on the same forces present. The return from suspension of Kiki Kouyaté, solid in duels, could even strengthen the three-axial defense, thus confirming the relevance of this scheme. Even if for the young Yaël Mouanga, author of a nice performance for his second start in Ligue 1, this could seem unfair. However, some questions remain open.
What about Théo Sainte-Luce, Arnaud Nordin or even Khalil Fayad, whose debuts were interesting against Monaco and who, each at their own level, are applying for a place in the starting eleven of the Montpellier staff. If the three-defender system seems attractive, it remains to be seen whether Gasset will find a place for these players capable of energizing the team, particularly on the wings or in the midfield. Also note that Akor Adams, used to starting matches, remained on the bench throughout the match against the Principality club.
-Should we therefore renew the 3-5-2 or make some adjustments? The answer could well depend on the team’s ability to adapt to the intensity of a TFC, not very exciting but yet so well ranked. One thing is certain: supporters are waiting to see if the positive dynamic is confirmed. It is in any case vital if maintenance is to be hoped for.
