Real control tower of the San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama has transformed into a tour operator since the beginning of the week.
The Frenchman is the number 1 attraction of NBA Paris Games 2025. With his franchise, he is back in his city to play two highly anticipated games against the Indiana Pacers. But before these meetings which count for the regular season, the number 1 of the Spurs has transformed into a real guide for his teammates since their arrival in France.
Wemby showed the way forward in the streets of Paris as he is accustomed to doing on the American courts by being the best scorer, rebounder and blocker of his team. He is at home and that was obvious as soon as he got off the plane.
A clean-up was organized on Monday at the Palais des Sports Maurice Thorez in Nanterre, on the floor where he turned professional. There, the children dressed in t-shirts bearing the name of the local hero only had eyes for the new star of the basketball world.
The same evening, Victor Wembanyama assumed his responsibilities as host of the stage by organizing a dinner that Gregg Popovich, the historic Spurs coach currently on retirement due to a stroke, would not have denied.
“We spoke with Pop and he had his program here. I know he would have done something like that. Doing it on the first day was important for me, to welcome them. I know if we were in the city or country of one of these guys, I would have loved to learn more about their origins, where they come from because they are good guys. It’s a real chance to be able to share these moments with them,” explained Victor Wembanyama at a press conference this Wednesday, January 22.
-Such an initiative was close to his heart and proves that he takes matters into his own hands on the pitch, but also off it. In the hellish pace of an 82-game regular season, these kinds of moments can have positive effects by strengthening bonds between players.
The day of January 21 proved it!
The trip took all these beautiful people to Chesnay, in Yvelines, the birthplace of Victor Wembanyama to the west of Paris, for the inauguration of two fields. He was accompanied by his teammates who insisted on making the trip. A particular attention which touched the 2.24 m giant.
“It means so much. Their curiosity, the way of appreciating what I had to show them. It was the best gift they could have given me, so I try to give back, I want to make sure they enjoy their time here. »
