Like many American Basketball players, Ronald March (31) has traveled a lot. Today in China, the Phoenix native went to three different universities in five years before moving notably to India, Luxembourg, France, Ukraine and Puerto Rico.
His journey also took him to Switzerland for a season, in 2018-2019, during which – in the Vevey jersey – he finished 2nd best scorer in the regular season with an average of 22.5 points, a hair behind Zachary Lewis (22.6 points with Boncourt). “The most fun season of my life,” he told the French site “BeBasket”. I love Switzerland, it’s my favorite country.”
Capable of playing full-back and winger positions, Ronald March has a natural inclination towards scoring – as well as a certain talent in the exercise. He continued to show the extent of his qualities in France, where he was elected to the typical team for the 2022-2023 Betclic Élite season, alongside Victor Wembanyama among others.
Since last summer, March has worn the jersey of the Ningbo Rockets, with whom he has just achieved a monumental performance. This Tuesday, the former Vevey player scored 60 points – a new personal best – during a Chinese championship match against Shandong Hi-Speed Kirin. His stat line is maddening: 20/39 shooting (51.3% success) including 7/18 at three points (38.9%), 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block, all in 41 minutes. Not enough to dislodge the American Errick McCollum and his 82 points scored in January 2015, but enough to make an impression.
-The gap with his teammates is dizzying: South Sudanese Mangok Mathiang finished on 22 points and behind, the third highest total was set at 6 points by Serbian Nick Rakocevic and Chinese Zuming Zhang. Logical, given the fact that Ronald March took half of his team’s shots (39/80).
The irony is that the Ningbo Rockets lost 112-102. Proof that in basketball, the difference is above all made collectively.
