To develop its new high-end smartphone, Honor has once again called on the talents of the car manufacturer Porsche. The Magic 7 RSR, however, does not only have arguments to make with its design, since we find top performance under its hood.
Partnerships between car designers and tech companies are not really new, but they often lead to results… far from what one would expect from a high-end device. The collaboration between Honor and Porsche is, in this sense, a little more relevant, with the two companies trying to bring to the world smartphones that try to justify their high prices. At least, that’s the feeling we could get with the Magic 6 RSR, based on the Magic 6 Pro, and the situation will not change this year.
Indeed, the experience is repeated with the Honor Magic 7 Pro. The smartphone, which left us a good impression during our test, is undergoing a small facelift for its RSR version, with a design reworked by Porsche. And, good news, after a pre-order period in China just before Christmas, the device is finally arriving internationally. With a price that matches the prestige of the German brand and the services offered by Honor.
A racing car on the starting blocks for 2025
The visual language displayed by the Magic 6 RSR is very present here. We find the same hexagonal photo block, a central line evoking the sporty look of Porsche cars, as well as a neat finish that screams high-end. Ultimately, the Magic 7 RSR looks just like its predecessor, right down to the two colors available: “Agate Grey” and “Provence” purple. Cautious conservatism or confidence in proven design? We will let you be the judge.
The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is here
Xiaomi’s future bestseller has just arrived. This new reference combining impressive features and attractive prices is already on sale at Boulanger.
Under the hood, we obviously find the components of the Magic 7 Pro. It is still the ultra-powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip that is in charge, accompanied here by 24 GB of RAM (yes) and 1 TB of storage space. On the screen side, we are entitled to a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel clocked at 120 Hz and with a resolution of 1280 × 2800 pixels.
Finally, despite a visually different camera unit, the trio of cameras remains, here too, the same as on the Magic 7 Pro, with a 50 Mpx main sensor, a 200 Mpx telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide-angle lens. of 50 Mpx. At the front, we are entitled to a 50 Mpx sensor.
The only notable difference here, and perhaps not the least depending on your needs: autonomy. On the Magic 7 RSR, we are dealing with a 5,850 mAh battery, compared to 5,270 mAh for the Pro version. On the charging side, we find fast charging up to 100 W wired and 80 W wireless. Finally, great luxury obliges, the charger is included.
-Artificial intelligence, a co-pilot for our daily lives
(And we’ll stop there for the allusions to the world of car racing)
Honor animates its smartphone with MagicOS 9.0, its version of Android 15. Artificial intelligence is obviously included, since the manufacturer has not skimped on the applications that make use of it.
To go further
If you’re installing Android 15, here’s what’s new to try
Thus, in addition to the services provided by Gemini, we will be able to find on the Magic 7 RSR various applications such as Magic Portal, translation tools, note-taking, noise reduction during calls and even deepfake detection. Image editing is also present: clipping objects and people, deleting or adding elements in a photo, or even generating a 3D avatar.
The 24 GB of RAM should therefore be useful here, enough to guarantee uncompromising use and without latency or lag of the Magic 7 RSR… and above all try to justify its price of 1799 euros. A fairly high level, which puts the device in direct competition with the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 Ultra, presented this January 22.
If, however, the proposal from Honor and Porsche has convinced you, you will have to wait until February 15 before you can get your hands on it via the Chinese firm’s website.
