(Stéphane Martin, January 22, 2025) – A fire broke out on Tuesday evening in a six-unit building on Adélaïde Street in Sorel-Tracy.
The emergency call was heard around 9:37 p.m. “When the firefighters arrived, the fire was raging on the balcony of the 3rd floor in the rear part. He had climbed into the attic. Our men attacked immediately. We quickly went to 2nd and 3rd alarm so that staff could take turns in the extreme cold conditions that were prevailing”says the director of the Sorel-Tracy Protection and Emergency Response Service, Roger Lamanque.
“We requested a bus to the scene to warm up the citizens and firefighters. The great difficulty in our work was the biting cold. The hard work of our firefighters made it possible to limit the damage. It’s a fire that could have quickly degenerated”he adds.
The firefighters’ work ended around 11 p.m. “The damage caused by the fire is to the balcony, walls and attic. In the upper apartments, the ceilings had to be removed. Obviously, the water caused damage to the lower floors. The events caused no injuries”reports Mr. Lamanque.
The fire made the premises uninhabitable. One person was supported by the Red Cross while the other tenants relocated on their own.
Faced with some suspicious elements to determine the exact origin of the fire, the scene was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec.
