A 31-year-old resident of Brest (Finistère) was currently appearing before the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court for “criminal conspiracy” and “violations of weapons legislation” which had been used in shootings in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) in April 2019.
Since the opening of this large-scale trial on Tuesday January 14, 2025, Samuel XXX and his lawyer have struggled to understand why the first appeared alongside members of Nantes organized crime to answer for his involvement in the shootings that occurred in the sensitive neighborhood from Bellevue, to Nantes, in April 2019.
So, Mr. Pierre-Hector Rustique always has the same question on his lips, in front of each person heard by the Assize Court. “Have you ever seen this man?” », he asks her. And tirelessly, his client stands up and his lawyer is systematically told “no”.
In reality, the thirty-year-old is no longer accused of any crime since the investigating chamber of the Rennes Court of Appeal sorted out this file. But he still faces charges related to these “organized gang murder attempts”.
“Did you come to the wrong door?” »
His DNA was in fact discovered on a damaged Kalashnikov case found at Place Mendès-France, in Nantes, at the scene of a shooting. Likewise, his comments made during sound systems raise questions. Other protagonists linked to the weapons in this case have however been the subject of prosecution before a simple criminal court.
His profile thus contrasts with his co-defendants before the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court: the young man, now free, has been working on a permanent contract (CDI) for several years in a garage automobile. His employer has also decided to keep his place during his incarceration since he gives him complete “satisfaction”.
“I was pointed at in every direction, flashes, lasers, machine guns. People were talking to me about attempted murder, arms trafficking,” recalled the main person concerned this Monday, January 20, 2025. “Is it a joke, did you go to the wrong door? », he asked the police officers who came to arrest him.
-The thirty-year-old, father of three children, thus discovered the prison world and seems to have left a few feathers there. “Detention devastated me, I could no longer sleep,” explained the man who went “nine times” before the investigating judge to request his release, in vain. “I did not want to explain to my children that justice put innocent people in prison: I do not want them to have hatred towards justice, I preferred to say that I worked there and that I was blocked during Covid,” he also detailed before the Assize Court.
His boss actively supports him
Since his release from prison, Samuel XXX has found his job “immediately” and today combines this job with “a second employment contract” in a fishmonger. “Today I have two jobs, I drive a 406 which is twenty years old […] and I am registered with the Bank of France,” whispered this father in front of the judges this Monday, January 20, 2025.
“I received letters from Samuel, he seemed devastated…”, his boss took care to write to the courts. “For me, it was bound to come out soon. » She had therefore contacted Me Pierre-Hector Rustique to “find out what was going on”, which obviously accelerated when she was released from prison.
Since 2019, however, the life of this young father has been suspended by the verdict which is expected this Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court. His criminal record only shows one “old mention” for driving under drugs, for which he received a simple fine.
“I will not increase his salary until I am sure that he will be paid,” also said the boss of the Brest car garage. Its employee, who theoretically faces up to ten years in prison, will be decided on its fate this Friday January 24, 2025.
