Located in the city center, at 32 rue Poullain Duparc, the establishment notably offered many sweet Korean specialties to taste. It also housed two large spaces for reading manga/comics and playing various video games by paying by the hour. The place also regularly organized events like Pokémon card contests or K-pop parties.
Financial difficulties
Despite excellent attendance during the weekends, the café quickly found itself in financial difficulty. At the end of 2024, the two co-managers, Sabrina Monnier and Judicaël Heuzé, opened an online prize pool in the hope of raising €15,000 to try to get their heads above water.
“Despite all our efforts in the diligent organization of events which regularly take up our time outside of our working days, this is not enough,” explained the bosses. “There is an abysmal gap in attendance between the weekend and the rest of the week.”
By their own admission, the project was not off to a very good financial start either. “We have been warned of certain significant additional charges once the official forecast has been established,” we can read on the long note accompanying the online prize pool. “Today, the account is in the red and we cannot exceed the authorized overdraft with a sword of Damocles hanging over our heads.”
-A difficult context for game bars
Their efforts were ultimately not enough to turn things around. Unable to pay the rent for the premises, the co-managers had to resolve to place the establishment in liquidation at the beginning of 2025.
The period is definitely very complex for game bars in Rennes. In May 2024, L'Heure du Jeu Anatole France had already had to close its doors. In financial difficulty, this fun landmark for dozens of quiz and board game enthusiasts had been forced to close its doors to preserve its branch at the Champs Libres. A month earlier, the historic WarpZone at the François Mitterrand mall also had to close permanently.
