Aminata Dembélé was appointed president of the CNOS-Mali women’s commission, succeeding taekwondo champion Sy Aminata Makoun Traoré. Dembélé, who said she was surprised by her election, was informed of her new position by the president of the Malian Taekwondo Federation, Master Alioune Badara Traoré. “I was told that it was on the recommendation of the federation presidents that I was appointed to this position. I am grateful to them for choosing me and I also extend my thanks to Habib Sissoko, president of the National Committee Olympic and sporting,” Dembélé said. She is determined to revitalize the women’s commission, with the ambition to unite all women in sport and create more opportunities for international competition.

Outgoing president Aminata Makoum Traoré congratulated Dembélé on social media, offering her support: “I’m proud to see you take on this role. If I can assist you in any way, let me know. I will always be available to share my experience. Good luck!” Traoré is a multiple-time champion from Mali and won a gold medal at the African Games in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011.

Dembélé has been involved in taekwondo since 1991, having won the title of champion of Mali eight times between 1999 and 2005. In 1999, she made history by becoming the first Malian to win a silver medal at the Western Championships -Africans organized in Ghana, in the -51 kg category. The following year, she added another silver medal in the same category at the West African Championships in Niger. In 2002, during the championships held in Bamako, she obtained a bronze medal in the -55 kg category before retiring in 2005. Dembélé is married and the mother of three children.

In addition, the 6th edition of the national women’s football championship begins today, with 12 clubs divided into two groups of six. Meanwhile, the first U17 women’s championship ended last Monday with the victory of the Amazons of Commune V, who triumphed 3-2 against the Super Lionesses of Hamdallaye in the final.
