At least five out of control fires are raging in two main areas, Palisades and Eaton, where at least 2,000 buildings have been destroyed.
California firefighters are already indicating that these are the two most destructive fires in the history of Los Angeles County.
The preliminary report shows five people dead. However, authorities expect to find other bodies in the rubble.
More than 130,000 people have been evacuated. In the affluent Pacific Palisades neighborhood, dozens of people abandoned their vehicles on the road while fleeing.
-Conditions of “extreme drought” and strong winds with gusts of up to 160 km/h are fueling the fires and accelerating their spread, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Wednesday evening.
The blaze now threatens the historic Hollywood district, where there is the famous sign and the Griffith Observatory, in particular.
The homes of many Hollywood stars were destroyed by the flames.
This is particularly the case of the actor Anthony Hopkins, the billionaire Paris Hilton, the actor couple Adam Brody and Leighton Meester and the singer Fergie, ex-member of the Black Eyed Peas, according to various American media.
It could be the costliest fire on record, with damage estimated at US$57 billion, due to the high value of the villas that were destroyed.
