During his appearance at a press conference after his victory against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open this Tuesday, Novak Djokovic was questioned about Carlos Alcaraz’s comments concerning his physical discomfort which occurred at the end of the first set.

While the Spaniard didn’t really know what to do from a tactical point of view regarding the Serbian’s attitude, the latter explained that he perfectly understood his position.

“I feel sorry for him. I understand that it’s not pleasant to play against someone who you don’t know if he’s going to give up or not. Is he moving? Is he running? What is happening? I felt that he was looking at me more than he was looking at himself. I was just trying to observe what was happening in my body and at the same time focus on every point of every game and try to hold my serve and put pressure on him. This is what happened. I put myself in a position where I could possibly make the break. I broke his serve at 5–4 (in the second set). It was enough to win the set. Then he started playing with a little more hesitation from the baseline. A few more bullets were missing. I started playing more freely. Again, I don’t know what will happen in the next few days, but I hope for the best. »
