Students were sent home before classes even started. This Monday, January 20, 2025, the Simone-Sauteur college in Bourneville-Sainte-Croix woke up with its feet in the water.

“A major flood occurred during the weekend and was only noticed this morning”indicates the Department of Eure in a press release.

The college has been closed since Monday January 20, 2025.

Firefighters are on site and have started pumping out the enormous volume of water, 2,500 m3 which accumulated over 1,300 m2 and two meters in height.

“The origin of this flood remains to be determined, considering that the college is new since it opened its doors last September. Companies are already on site and mobilized to intervene as soon as possible”underlines the Departmental Council.

The Department works closely with the academic inspectorate to quickly communicate a date for resuming classes to the parents of the establishment’s 560 students.

At 5:30 p.m., 9 firefighters were still on the scene and trying to pump out the water using 6 motor pumps. For the moment, the end of the intervention has not been estimated.
