Like Paris, which now overtaxes the heaviest vehicles on the surface, Bordeaux will also apply a higher price for certain categories of vehicles from next May.
In the city of Bordeaux, a decision by the environmentalist town hall led by ecologist Pierre Hurmic will cause a lot of noise. The one which, like what is already happening in Paris, will impose a surcharge on street parking for the heaviest non-professional vehicles from next May. “A new rate will be introduced for the heaviest cars. (…) This increase concerns subscriptions and the hourly rate. However, the subscription of professionals is exempt”clarified the municipality in a press release.
Heavy and bulky vehicles
Taken in an attempt to limit “the stronger ecological impact” of these vehicles generates more pollution and increases CO2 emissions”this surcharge decision was also validated because “roads deteriorate more quickly” because of their weight or “a greater occupation of public space (…) by their bulky volume (which) reduces parking capacity”.
14% of visitors concerned
In fact from May 2, thermal vehicles affected by this 30% increase in the current rate in Bordeaux will be those exceeding 1,600 kg while hybrid and electric electric vehicles will be affected by this surcharge from 1,900 kg. This weight surcharge should represent approximately 10% of subscribers (excluding professionals) and 14% of visitors.
