A fire claimed the life of an 86-year-old man last night in Doubs. According to firefighters, the octogenarian was stuck upstairs and died in the fire in his house in Charmauvillers. The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. in the night from Saturday to Sunday in an old renovated farmhouse.
Divided into two dwellings, the house was occupied by a family of two adults and three children on the ground floor. The family was able to get out before help arrived, reports the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of Doubs, confirming information from radio Ici.
Upstairs, the 86-year-old man was found unconscious by emergency services and was pronounced dead at the scene. Weakened by the flames, the structure of the building presented a risk of collapse. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
