Australian Open – Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff enter quarterfinals
Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021, the Swiss “played really well in the first set, I had trouble being on the offensive,” admitted Gauff after her victory, the first in three sets since her victorious final at the beginning of November at the Masters.
“I played more aggressively in the 2nd and 3rd sets,” continued the Floridian, undefeated for thirteen matches. Gauff will face Paula Badosa (12th) in the quarter-finals. The Spaniard eliminated Serbian Olga Danilovic (WTA 55) 6-1, 7-6 (7/2) and equaled her best Grand Slam performance at Roland-Garros in 2021 and at the US Open in 2024.
Gauff and Badosa are tied for three wins each in their matchups.
