The death toll from the explosion of a tanker truck in central Nigeria on Saturday now stands at 86 dead, emergency services told AFP on Sunday, while an initial assessment showed 70 victims.
“The final toll from the tanker truck explosion is 86 dead. We buried 86 burned bodies between 12:00 yesterday (Saturday) and 2:00 today (Sunday),” said Ibrahim Audu Husseini, the spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for Niger State. On Saturday morning, a fuel tanker overturned in Niger State, attracting a crowd to collect the spilled gasoline, and then exploded.
