Emile’s parents wish to bury their son in the Haut-Vernet cemetery. The municipal council made its decision this Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Marie and Colomban Soleil, Emile’s parents, wish to bury their son in the Haut-Vernet cemetery. Their request was on the agenda of the municipal council this Saturday, January 18, 2025.
“I looked at the question, burying poor little Emile. This is not a request for a family concession, we have no right to refuse it”said the mayor, François Balique, quoted by BFM.
“We are not obliged to accept, I told the parents to wait, that we had to decide in the Municipal Council.”
“I do it with heart”
The mayor specifies that “it will be a simple tomb” and that he already knows where he will be positioned, according to the 24-hour news channel.
“I do it with my heart, but only to bury Emile, because otherwise afterwards, we would have to do it for everyone”he added. “We are not going to turn into a cemetery.”
-Unanimously accepted
François Balique then asks his municipal council if anyone is against it. He received silence as a response, according to BFM. The request was unanimously accepted. The mayor was to call the parents in the evening, according to his words.
Funeral in early February
The funeral of Emile Soleil must take place at the beginning of February. The date of February 8 would have been blocked by the family, according to BFM, taken up by The Parisian. A religious celebration should be held in a symbolic place chosen by the child’s family: the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine basilica of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in the Var. The mass will be open to the public. Burial will then take place in the cemetery of the hamlet of Haut-Vernet.
On July 8, 2023, little Emile, two and a half years old, disappeared in Haut-Vernet, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, while he was in his grandparents’ garden. On March 30, 2024, a resident found the skull of the little boy near the hamlet. The causes of the young child’s death still remain unknown.
