Fortunately, Saturdays follow one another and are not the same for the Ariégeois. After the Tarbes slap, we saw a Luzenac team, practically at full strength (only Blanchard was missing, suspended), doing better despite a disastrous start to the match.
The first ten minutes saw the two teams neutralize each other but without worrying the two goalkeepers, Roig – Montauban) and Eychenne (Luzenac). It’s at the quarter of an hour that things start to take off. A big mistake by the local defense gives Sangoi the opportunity to challenge the Ariège goalkeeper for the opener (0-1, 16th). Stung, the locals reacted and Tounkara narrowly missed the equalizer, his shot going just over the crossbar. Unfortunately for Luzenac, a counter quickly led by Montauban hits the mark. Sangoi took the opportunity to double his personal account (0-2, 23rd). We fear the worst for Lopez’s partners. But, as since the start of the season, they react positively and take possession of the ball. But faced with a solid Tarn-et-Garonnaise defense, the Ariégeois have difficulty creating real scoring opportunities. Montauban turns his back and leads counterattacks which send shivers through the ranks of Paul-Fédou’s frozen supporters. The turning point of the match comes three minutes before the break. A superb counter-attack saw, at the end of the line, Robert take a shot which crashed onto Eychenne’s crossbar. 0-2 at rest, a score which reflects visiting efficiency more than true domination.
Returning from the locker room, Barry, poorly recovered from his injury, leaves his place to Mariko who takes his place alongside Berete in LAP’s central defense and throws Lopez into midfield. The home team is better balanced and proves it by reducing the score. Following a corner, Berete is quickest into the area (1-2, 47th).
Each team had the match ball
This goal encourages the Reds and Blues who continue a large domination, the Montalbanais agreeing to leave the ball to try to take their opponents on the counter. A bad calculation since, at the hour mark, Luzenac is rewarded for all his efforts. A free kick from Lopez finds Mariko on reception to push the ball into the back of the net (2-2, 64th). Until the end, the game sees both teams trying to win. The ball goes from one side to the other, tension rises. It’s Araud who is the first to have the match point but Tounkara’s cross is a little too strong. It’s Montauban’s turn to win but Zouaoui’s shot crashes onto the crossbar. With some nice flights from their goalkeepers, they held on. A 2-2 draw which leaves a little regret in the Ariège camp but, given the scenario, they will be easily satisfied with it. After taking the advantage, the Montalbanais died down a little in the second half, pushed by the courageous and determined locals.
In the locker rooms
Grégory Lacoste (Luzenac AP coach): “It’s difficult to choose between disappointment and satisfaction. Disappointed with this bad start to the match which weighs us down for the rest of the match where we dominated most of the time. Satisfied to see, once again, my players not giving up and doing what is necessary to obtain a positive final score. All the points will count, we’ll take this one with pleasure. »
Mehdi Boudjerou (Montauban coach): “Not having been able to kill the match at the end of the first half with this 3-0 ball which crashed into the crossbar, we had to be content to leave with a draw. During the second act, we suffered too much and we encountered a local revolt which destabilized us. It is still a point taken with which we will have to be content. »
