The movie Dune, part two by Denis Villeneuve stands out on the other side of the Atlantic, where he received seven nominations for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), the British equivalent of the Oscars. The filmmaker is notably in the running for the best director prize.

In this popular category, Denis Villeneuve competes against Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Edward Berger (Conclave), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez) and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).

Dune, part two is also nominated in the categories of best photography, best editing, best makeup and hairstyles, best sets, best visual effects and best sound.

The feature film is therefore not found in the premier category of any award ceremony, that of best film, where they compete Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Perez et A complete stranger (A Complete Unknown), James Mangold’s biographical film about Bob Dylan.

The papal thriller Conclave leads the way in terms of nominations with a mention in 12 categories, including best actor for Ralph Fiennes’ performance. He is closely followed by Emilia Pereza musical comedy starring Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón, in the running for the best actress award.

The ceremony of BAFTA will be held on February 16 in London, about two weeks before the Oscars, the announcement of whose nominations has been postponed twice due to the fires which continue to burn in Los Angeles. The films competing for the Oscars should be revealed on January 23.
