what we know about the fatal fire

A 41-year-old mother died this Saturday, January 18 as a result of her injuries in the fire in her apartment in (Bouches-du-Rhône), where her partner and their two children were also located.

A fire broke out on the night of Thursday January 16 to Friday January 17 in Miramas (Bouches-du-Rhône) in an apartment. Four people from the same family were injured. One of them died from her injuries.

· Around fifty firefighters mobilized

Around 2:20 a.m., a fire broke out in an apartment in a seven-story building in Miramas. The fire trapped the occupants after spreading quickly.

Around fifty firefighters were involved in this intervention with around fifteen engines.

Around fifteen apartments were protected by emergency services. Eleven tenants were evacuated and taken care of before being able to return to their homes.

· One person dead and three injured

Four people were rescued by firefighters, three of them were in critical condition. Among them, a 41-year-old mother, who succumbed to her injuries on the night of Friday January 17 to Saturday January 18.

Her children were also injured in the fire. According to our information, his 5-year-old son, seriously burned, is still in critical condition. The 5-year-old girl’s health has improved.

The father, burned on the face and hands, was able to leave the hospital according to the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence Jean-Luc Blachon to Agence- Presse (AFP).

· An arson fire

An investigation was opened for “murder, attempted murder by an organized gang and arson by an organized gang causing danger to people,” said the prosecutor. She was handed over to the Judicial Police.

According to Jean-Luc Blachon, “the first investigations made it possible to conclude with certainty that the fire was of criminal origin”, and that the burned apartment, located on the ground floor, was “targeted”. A jerry can was found in front of the front door.

However, he did not give any information on the motives which could have pushed the arsonist(s) to target this family. “The investigation is still ongoing,” he insisted, considering however that it was an “absolutely serious crime”.

According to our information, the home was unfavorably known to the police.
