The Luc Tangorre cases were among the most publicized in France. In 1983, Luc Tangorre, nicknamed “the rapist of the southern districts of Marseille”, was sentenced to 15 years of criminal imprisonment for ten sexual assaults and rapes committed between 1979 and 1981. After a partial pardon and his release from prison, he was accused of the rape of two American students in 1988 and sentenced to 18 years of criminal imprisonment by the Gard Assize Court.
