The Grammy Awards will be held as planned on February 2 despite the fires

The Recording Academy has decided: the Grammy Awards will take place as planned on February 2 despite the fires ravaging Los Angeles.

In a letter addressed to members of the academy, Harvey Mason Jr, CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, confirmed the continuation of this 67th edition, while promising that it would have “renewed meaning”.

“This year, the show will be used to raise additional funds to support disaster relief efforts and honor the courage and dedication of the first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” reads the missive published by Variety.

Already substantial aid

Moreover, the institution did not wait for the ceremony to act. The Recording Academy and MusiCares have already launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort with an initial donation of $1 million to support music professionals and creatives affected by the disaster.

“Thanks to additional contributions, we have already distributed more than $2 million in emergency assistance to those who need it most,” said Harvey Mason Jr.
