If Rod Laver is not present at this 2025 edition of the Australian Open, that did not prevent him from speaking in the press regarding the outcome of the tournament in the men’s draw.

Visibly impressed by the progress made by his compatriot, Alex De Minaur, the Australian living legend explained why he believes he has the weapons to win his first Grand Slam title.

“Alex continues to live up to his potential and make the most of his considerable talent. He worked very hard to get to this level. He has a relentless speed in his movements and is quite fearless when the moment is hot. I think with the Australian public behind him and the growth he’s seen over the last 12 months, he definitely has what it takes to go all the way. Alex’s greatest strength is his attitude, combined with his speed and resilience. Also last year he became much stronger on the serve, he turned it into an important weapon. The only major obstacle to the title is reigning champion Jannik Sinner who he must find a way to overcome after losing the previous nine fights against the world number 1. But it’s a Grand Slam tournament and a lot can happen along the way. »
