End of the scholarship program for 1,500 students, the FNE announces the lapse of the agreement with CORPUHA

The National Education Fund (FNE) has officially announced the end of the university scholarship program for 1,500 students. A decision which arises from the lapsed nature of the agreement signed in October 2020 with the Conference of Rectors, Presidents and Leaders of Higher Education Institutions of Haiti (CORPUHA).

Port-au-Prince, January 15, 2025 – This program, which aimed to facilitate access to higher education, is coming to an end after a total investment of 387 million gourdes spread over eight successive payments.

A program that ends in silence

The FNE-CORPUHA agreement, lasting four years, ended in September 2024. This partnership allowed students to join several universities, including GOC, UNIKA, UNDH, IHECE, ESHI, CREFI, UNAP, UNEP and URH. But to everyone’s surprise, no extension of the program was announced, leaving hundreds of students in limbo.

Students abandoned to their fate

The FNE asked the beneficiaries to contact their respective universities to regularize their administrative situation. However, many students enrolled in five-year courses say they are abandoned.

“We are in total limbo. Since October 2024, we no longer have access to courses or exams,” laments a 5th year student at GOC University.

An uncertain future for young scholarship holders

The FNE’s decision raises questions about the sustainability of study funding programs in Haiti. Affected students are hoping for rapid intervention from the state to allow them to continue their academic journey.

Faced with this situation, eyes are now turning to the government to provide concrete solutions to these young people who see their future on hold.
