(Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron welcomed on Wednesday evening the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas announced earlier by negotiators meeting in Qatar, calling it an “immense relief” for Gazans and a “hope for the hostages” held in the Palestinian enclave and their families.
“The agreement must be respected. The hostages, released. The Gazans, rescued,” the French president wrote on the social network X. “A political solution must come,” he added.
