In “La Révolte”, created in 1870, Villiers de L’Isle-Adam depicts a typical couple of Second Empire society, a banker and his wife, a “perfect” couple therefore, whose wife will provoke the explosion announcing his immediate departure. This truly modern piece, directed by Laurent Pérez, with Sylvie Maury and Laurent Pérez, and Philippe Gelda on the piano, will be performed on Saturday January 18 at 8:30 p.m. at La Prade.

The criticism of 1870 was shocked by the modernity of the subject: the attempted revolt of a woman, intelligent and sensitive, in a materialist and bourgeois society, which confines her to her role as wife and mother. Even today, the text questions the place left to women in society…
