Australian Open: Leylah Fernandez’s efforts are rewarded with a first

For the first time in her career, Leylah Fernandez qualified for the third round of the Australian Open, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, Eastern time. But the Quebecer had to work hard to achieve it.

Two double faults in a row from the first game of the match forced the 30^e seeded to chase the score, against the Romanian Cristina Bucsa, 100^e in the world.

The good news is that Leylah finally managed to catch up with her rival late in the second set, thanks to a break snatched at the last minute at the 10th.^e game, and which she imposed 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4, at the end of a marathon of 2 hours 40 minutes of play.

However, the rest does not look any smoother for the 22-year-old from Laval, who will now face the third seed, the American Coco Gauff, on Thursday evening or during the night from Thursday to Friday.
