Paul Watson, defender of the oceans, closing the Tech&fest festival in Grenoble

Although he was released from his prison in Greenland only a month ago, Paul Watson will be at the Tech&fest festival in on February 5 and 6.

The Tech&fest festival, which will be held in Grenoble on February 5 and 6, 2025, will receive a distinguished guest: Paul Watson, founder of the NGO SeaShepherd and emblematic figure in the fight for the protection of the oceans. Released on December 17, 2024 after nearly 150 days of detention in Greenland, Paul Watson will speak at the closing of the festival, on Thursday February 6, on the main stage of Alpexpo.

The fervent defender of whales will be the distinguished guest during this second edition of Tech&Fest, which this year focuses on “tech sense”. The festival organizers explain their desire to highlight technology that aims for a more virtuous future, while questioning its impact on the planet. Paul Watson, recognized for his commitment since the 70s, will provide his expertise on the use of new technologies to preserve marine biodiversity.

Paul Watson in Grenoble: who is he?

For those who don’t know Paul Watson, he is one of the founders of Greenpeace. It was in 1977 that he created SeaShepherd, an organization dedicated to the defense of the oceans and marine life. Since then, he has tirelessly fought against illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing practices. SeaShepherd works with several national navies and Interpol to bring poachers to justice and stop the destruction of marine ecosystems.

At Tech&Fest, Paul Watson will be interviewed about the role of technology in protecting the oceans and how SeaShepherd uses recent innovations to carry out its missions.
