According to Elena Rossoni-Notter, Director of the Museum and researcher-archaeologist: “Every detail is important for a researcher, a scientist, an archaeologist. »

The MAPM was able to count on the collaboration of numerous actors, namely zooarchaeologists, ethologists, environmental specialists and specialized photographers.

Institutions such as the Donnadieu Foundation, which works for better access to culture, the Terra Amata Museum, the Mercantour Natural Park, the CEPAM Laboratory and the Lazaret Laboratory have brought their expertise and their collections to enrich this initiative.

The exhibition highlights the animals that populated the Mediterranean region during the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, through remarkable archaeological pieces. We find:

  • The famous Siberian mammoth.
  • A room dedicated to the ibex, emblem of the mountains, to study its evolution and protection. “A study that risks making a revolution in the world of anthropology »confides the director.
  • Statuettes of animals from all continents. This collection, by Ludovic Donnadieu, aims to question their similarities and to reflect on possible links between objects that have never met.
  • A section dedicated to insects and butterflies, with rare endemic and exotic species. « Monaco also has its particularities in this discipline”recalls Elena Rossoni-Notter. Younger generations will be able to learn more about the importance of insects and respect for the biotope.
