At the 9 p.m. check-in this Monday evening, Charlie Dalin was just under 100 miles from the finish line. He is expected between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. But once he crosses the finish line, what will happen?

Without any last minute damage, Charlie Dalin, the skipper of Macif Santé Prévoyance, should be the first of the Vendée Globe fleet to cross the finishing line in Les Sables-d’Olonne. A priori between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
But what will happen when the winner crosses the finish line?
Two scenarios are possible: an arrival at high tide or an arrival at low tide. Because entry into the Chenal des Sables is subject to tide times.
If the announced winner, Charlie Dalin crosses the finish line early, he will be able to go back up the channel straight away. The channel is accessible Tuesday morning from 1:10 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
After 6:45 a.m., the winner will have to wait for the next high tide and will therefore only be able to show up from 1:50 p.m.

In the meantime, he will have to go back out to sea and circle in the water or moor on one of the waiting buoys, but stay on board his IMOCA.
Once the channel is accessible, the winner will only have to enjoy the party with the public gathered throughout and a pyrotechnic show saluting their performance.
“The presentation of the trophy to the winner as well as a speech to the public for all arrivals will take place on the stage of the Arrivals Village”, specifies the organization of the Vendée Globe, 30 minutes after the arrival of the IMOCA at the pontoon.
The public will then have to wait a few hours before applauding the arrival of Yoann Richomme. The latest estimates give an arrival of skipper Paprec Arkea between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. this Tuesday as well.
This same protocol will be applied to him, minus the presentation of the trophy. It is also for the rest of the skippers who will cross the finish line.
