Defenseman Tony Deangelo has officially left the KHL’s SKA St. Petersburg for family reasons. He found common ground to return to North America by ending his agreement.
We could see him again in the NHL later, having had a solid season in Russia. The defender had 32 points in 34 games since the start of the campaign. He was the weapon of choice on the power play for SKA as the team’s third leading scorer.
His departure could also reduce Ivan Demidov’s production in St. Petersburg since the two players were teammates and Deangelo attracted the opponent a lot to open the game to his teammates.
In short, the latter will certainly wish to receive offers from the NHL soon in order to make a return to the league. His reputation is not at the top with teams, but that could change for the former Carolina Hurricanes.
