It’s no longer a surprise after ten seasons, but it must be said again: Connor McDavid is an exceptional player. The Edmonton Oilers star forward continues his career with another remarkable campaign. With 58 points in 39 games, he ranks among the six most prolific athletes in the game, despite missing a few duels due to an ankle injury.

Over the years, his extraordinary production has allowed him to establish several records and establish himself among the best in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL). One of his notable achievements is being the fourth fastest player since the creation of the Bettman Tour to reach the 1,000-point plateau, doing so in just 659 games.

On the occasion of his 28th birthday, journalist Bob Stauffer took a look at his career among the biggest names in the NHL. His observation is clear: McDavid is already one of the best hockey players in history, despite his young age.

At his 28th birthday, he occupies third position among the best scorers at this age, tied with Steve Yzerman. Only Wayne Gretzky, obviously, and Mario Lemieux are ahead of him. However, it should be noted that Yzerman, the legend of the Detroit Red Wings, needed 73 more games to reach the same total as the current captain of the Alberta team.

The Oilers can be proud to have such a talent on their team, such a rare player in the NHL. It is likely that we will have to wait several years before seeing an athlete of his caliber drafted again. Since his debut in the league, McDavid has accumulated the most points (1,040), the fifth highest goal total (351), the most assists (689), the eighth best differential (+159) and the best points average per game (1.52) among all hockey players on the Bettman circuit during this period.
