Luka Dončić remains out for at least two weeks due to a strained left calf.
Luka Dončić did not play in Sunday afternoon’s 122-101 loss to the Denver Nuggets and is now ineligible to receive NBA awards for the 2024-25 season. The Slovenian will not meet the minimum threshold of 65 matches imposed by the regulations.
Luka’s ineligibility for NBA MVP is a heartbreaking reality, but his focus will now be on winning the championship this year. He suffered a calf injury on Christmas Day against the Timberwolves. Although he participated in shooting drills during Saturday’s practice, his recovery will still take a few weeks.
Luka Dončić has been out for at least two weeks due to his left calf injury. He has already missed 17 games in the 2024-25 NBA season. This also ends his streak of five consecutive All-NBA First Team selections. Due to the minimum 65 match rule, he will not be eligible for individual awards.
Luka Dončić now aims for NBA title
The Dallas Mavericks star joins a list of players ineligible for 2024-25 NBA awards, including Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid, Zion Williamson, Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd also shared his thoughts on Luka Dončić’s ineligibility for MVP due to the NBA’s minimum game threshold.
“Yeah, it’s just because the league made it a rule, so we’ll follow the rules,” Jason Kidd said.
“Unfortunately, he’s not eligible for MVP, but it’s a team sport, and we know we need Luka to win the championship. The individual accolades will come, but we play to win a championship, and we hope it comes back soon. »
