More than 250 objects on display
The dull sound of waves hitting the hull of a boat… From the moment you enter, the visitor is put in the conditions of a world tour. Thierry Gausseron, director of the museum, wanted the exhibition to be as immersive as possible. More than 250 objects are on display, such as the jacket of Vincent Riou, winner of the 5th edition of the Vendée Globe.
“It had remained in the garage for 10 years, unwashed… And there was still a ‘Chupa Chups’ in a pocket,” laughs Thierry Gausseron before adding, “we say to ourselves that this outfit which does not was nothing when it was on sale, now that it is presented in a museum, it becomes a sacred object.

“I want to see what it’s like to travel around the world”
Each section of the exhibition evokes an emblematic stage of the world tour, from the Cape of “Good Hope” to the much feared “Doldrums”. On a school trip, Annabelle, 10 years old, is faced with a video of a skipper on the open sea. Enough to give her ideas: “I want to do it. Because I want to see what it’s like to to travel around the world, but at the same time, I don’t want to put myself in danger!”, she smiles. Last stage of the exhibition: some of the nine Vendée Globe trophies are on display. The 10th will be awarded on May 10 in Les Sables d’Olonne.
