You had to have your heart set. After a particularly open match, Toulouse lost (1-2) at home against Strasbourgthis Sunday January 12, 2025 during the 17th day of the championship. Story of the last match of the first leg, between two teams fighting for the right to dream of Europe.
Fresh air, but boiling match
At the Stadium, the cold of late afternoon and the singing aisles welcome Strasbourg barely recovered from a flu epidemic that decimated their ranks. Moreover, the Toulouse people immediately seemed more energetic and multiplied their almost decisive actions (13th, 16th, 20th).
However, the first achievement is Alsatian… well helped by Guillaume Restes. The most highly valued young goalkeeper in the world slide at the entrance to the surface and allows Emanuel Emegha to shake the nets of a completely empty cage (14e).
A hotly contested sausage derby
If this first goal was a bit lucky, this is not at all the case with the second. The Dutch striker scores a double by taking a low cross, after a very good collective action (27e). Fortunately, Zakaria Aboukhlal returns to his strong man costume from the purple attack and reduces the gap with an angry header, transformed into a CSC (35ᵉ).
The suspense is all the more rekindled as Emanuel Emegha’s hat-trick is canceled after recourse to VAR, for a hair on his knee sticking out (38e). The fans and Carles Martinez Novell are going through a real emotional roller coaster. The latter rants in Catalan from his sidelines. Especially after Zakaria Aboukhlal came up against a miraculous save from Dorde Petrovic which deprives him of the double (45e). Halftime score: 2-1.
VAR changes allegiance
The two teams went back to back after the restart (17 shots to 8). Toulouse is particularly close to equalizing on a free kick (56th). Diego Moreira then almost killed the match with a left-footed shot (76th). The Violets believe they have a penalty, before the VAR transforms it into a free kick on the edge of the area. Suazo’s shot hits the wall (76e).
Franck Magri believes he scored his first goal of the season by taking a free kick (78e). It was finally canceled by the VAR, again, in an electric atmosphere which forced the referee to multiply the cards. The Toulouse coach screams until he loses his voice. The Toulouse people push to the end (83rd, 87th, 90the+2, 90e+9), alas in vain.
The next TFC match will be at the Stadium against LavalWednesday January 15 at 6:30 p.m. These will be the round of 16 of the French Cup.
