Knights of Lévis: solid performance from Gagné

The Knights emerged victorious from the duel against the Forestiers d’Amos a second time in as many days, but this time by a score of 3 to 2 during the Dessercom Mascot Day.

As is often the case when the same two teams face each other in less than 24 hours, robust play was on display this afternoon. Officials awarded no less than 15 penalties, including 10 to the Knights during the game. The big star of this victory is the Knights goalkeeper. Ryan Gagné was indeed solid in front of his cage. He stopped 38 of the 40 shots aimed at him. This performance earned him the first star of the match.
A first twenty focused on the offensive while 5 goals were scored by both teams. The 613 spectators did not have to wait long before being able to throw their pooch onto the ice. From the 38th second of the match, Dereck Asselin resumed Samuel Cloutier’s throw return. A few minutes later, the Forestiers leveled the score when Lucas Perreault’s throw from circles beat Ryan Gagné. The locals took the lead again through Samuel Cloutier when his shot from the blue line hit the opposing goalkeeper. Amos comes from behind once again when Samuel Trapper also returns a throw. The last goal of the initial engagement was the result of a nice forecheck from the trio composed of Dereck Asselin, Logan Bêty and Josh Demers. The latter scores his 5th goal of the season on a nice pass from Dereck Asselin.

Despite good scoring chances by both teams, no goals were scored in the second period. Many penalties were awarded which disrupted the flow of the game.

In the third period, the representatives of Chaudière-Appalaches played with fire. The latter offer a two-player numerical advantage to the visitors. They will have to defend 5 against 3. The excellent work of the Lévisian goalkeeper and the special unit with a numerical disadvantage held up. Moreover, the visitors were shut out in 10 power plays.

The Knights’ record is now 28 wins in 32 games.

The three RDS stars are:
1st star: Ryan Gagné of the Knights;
2nd star: Lucas Perreault of Forestiers;
3rd star: Derek Asselin of the Knights.

The Knights will be on the road for the next four games. They will be back at home on Sunday January 26, against the Élites de Jonquière.
