The Thunder Bay semi-professional soccer club, the Chill, is suspending its participation in the USL2 league for the 2025 season.

In a press release, the Chill explains this decision because of the distance the team must travel to face other teams in the league, and the increasing costs for transportation, accommodation and meals in the United States, in a context of weakness in the Canadian dollar.

The Chill is the only Canadian team in the USL2 league.

This decision was not made overnight and we have given a lot of thought and planning to continue operating at a high level and ensure our sustainability for the next 25 yearsindicates the team’s general manager, Tony Colistro, in the press release.

The team says the league is committed to restoring a Deep North division with new franchises in 2026 and that the Chill could then re-enter the league.

The team says it plans to play friendly matches in 2025 and participate in some competitions.

The Chill mentions that it is currently accepting applications from interested players.
